San Fulgencio & La Marina
Among the large variety of towns that can be found near the city of Alicante, there are two ones that are pretty odd, a couple of neighbouring towns that are not well known among those who decide to visit the territory of Alicante in Spain. In this article we intend to talk a little about them. These places are San Fulgencio and La Marina.
Let us start by talking about the town of San Fulgencio. This is a pretty quiet place that stands out for three reasons:
Because of its proximity to the sea and the city of Alicante, which allows for an abundance of residential neighbourhoods thanks to people’s search for a quiet place outside the main city, but that is equally suitable for living.
Because of its gastronomy, where the dishes ‘Rice with rabbit’ and the ‘Stew with balls’ (sic) stand out… Yes, that is how this stew is called, it is made with pork or beef, and is typical of the Levante region during the Christmas period.
Because of its archaeological sites that help narrate the history of this special area of Alicante and of the beautiful Spanish territory in general.
On the other hand, we have the town of La Marina. This place may cause some confusion as some people might think it is a residential area belonging to San Fulgencio. But it is actually a different town altogether, a neighbour town to this locality. As a matter of fact, they belong to two different cities, La Marina belonging to Elche and San Fulgencio to Alicante.
It is fair to say that this place receives more visitors than the previous one, since, even though San Fulgencio is bigger than La Marina, this place offers more activities and projects for its inhabitants, particularly the younger population, apart from its access to two beautiful beaches:
The La Marina beach, which is the main or most visited one by tourists since it is an award-winning beach. It even boasts a Blue Flag since it complies with all the necessary requirements, which also allows for the practice of most water sports.
The other one is the El PInet beach, which lies next to La Marina and is known for its more traditional look, with little houses, restaurants and two hostels right on the sands of the beach.
Now that we have discussed both localities you will be wondering what is so special about these places. Well, apart from everything I have already described, the large variety of sports that can be practiced here needs to be mentioned, for not going into detail again about its cuisine or the tourism that the entire region of Alicante has to offer.
But it is not all about sports, food or tourism, you can always choose for the activities or projects each town’s city hall organises, activities such as theatre, cinema or nearly every art form. They will help not only to broaden our minds but also to generate awareness of the true talent that exists in any corner of Alicante. Thus, they will also help us to discover and become pursue what we like the most and fills our soul with joy.
