Gran Alacant, something beautiful
If we could split the large territory that is Alicante into smaller parts and highlight each one of them, it is clear that we could not leave out the area known as Greater Alicante (Gran Alacant).
Located on the Cape of Santa Pola, between the mountain range and the Carabassí beach, according to the 2018 census of the National Institute for Statistics (INE) this extensive territory has a total of 8632 inhabitants.
If there is something we ought to highlight about this place, it would be its expanding growth and its economic upkeep, since this is a place known for its amount of residential neighbourhoods, for the tourism the location itself offers, further supplemented by the Mediterranean cuisine and the large amount of shopping areas. That includes the Gran Alacant Shopping Centre which stands out due to its beauty and clothes’ stores, night clubs, restaurants, and other items of interest to anyone not from the Alicante area.
When visiting the beautiful Gran Alicante area, what people least think of is a mall, since, let us be honest, those not from there seek to enjoy the warm beach and the beautiful view offered by the Mediterranean. This is where the residential areas and the beaches come into play.
With a total of 37 residential neighbourhoods in the area (several of which stand out such as Alto Mar, Carabassí, Costa Hispania, El Faro, Mirador del Mediterráneo, Puerto Marino, San Sebastián, Vista Bahía, etc.), Gran Alacant is famous because of its close proximity to the sea, especially because the Carabassi beach and the Santa Pola mountain range can be found in this beautiful location, which turn it into a location ideally suited for tourism.
There is a key reason why these places are the most important ones in the region:
Firstly, there is the Carabassi beach or the ‘Carabassi Dunes’: it is an area with great environmental value due to its combination of high dunes, fossil dunes and pillar-shaped dunes, which give the beach its second name. This without mentioning that this is an award-winning beach that has received the distinction of the Blue Flag (a certification that is awarded to those beaches that comply with a series of requirements regarding environmental protection and their facilities). This hotspot has lifeguards, hammocks, footbaths, toilets and offers the possibility of practising water sports like windsurf.
Secondly, we have a part of Santa Pola, specifically its mountain range, which acts as a boundary between Gran Alacant and the territory of Santa Pola as a whole.
The sierra of Santa Pola has several characteristics, one of them is that it contains a 13km path that starts, winds around and ends at the same location. It should be mentioned that this is a quite peculiar area since it is a gem for hiking fans in general due to its great geological importance, interesting vegetation and typical fauna, but also a preferred location for hunters, who tend to practise their marksmanship skills there from October to March.
Having described these few traits we can also mention that Gran Alacant is not a city, it is not even a town, it is a beautiful and exceptional location where people will live a calm experience and a closer contact with nature at first hand, without mentioning the nice warmth along with the refreshing sea water in this summertime that we already find ourselves in.
I therefore recommend you enjoy what nature and above all Greater Alicante have to offer, since finding the right place is synonymous with finding peace, tranquillity, and even a beautiful moment of happiness.
